The Monday Sweet Spot – 10/26/2015

We’ve all hit that point during a smoke, usually about half way through, in which the cigar’s flavors and aromas open up and transform the experience into something far more rich, complex, and enjoyable.

In this moment, gentlemen, you’ve hit the “sweet spot”.

A moment that encourages you to open your senses, and to truly appreciate the experience that the smoke has ushered you into.

In the same way, it’s important to take time in our lives to slow down, and open our senses to the world around us. To take notice of the good things going on and the good people doing them.

These are life’s “sweet spots”, and your Monday could use one…

After Her Wedding Was Canceled, A Bride’s Family Turned Her Reception Into A Feast For The Homeless

A California family found a way to turn heartache into something beautiful by transforming their daughter’s canceled wedding reception into a feast for the homeless community.

Just days before her wedding, 27-year-old Quinn Duane called her mom to deliver distressing news: The groom was having second thoughts about the nuptials, and the couple had broken up.

Since they had already paid for a reception at a beautiful Sacramento hotel, Quinn’s mother, Kari, decided to follow through with the event anyway, scrapping the original guest list and instead inviting residents from a local homeless shelter.

On Saturday, about 90 homeless men, women and children arrived at Sacramento’s Citizen Hotel to enjoy a feast, hosted by the Duane family.

Rashad Abdullah, one of many guests, brought his entire family: a wife and five children.

“When you’re going through a hard time and a struggle for you to get out to do something different and with your family, it was really a blessing,” he told Sacramento’s KCRA.

The 27-year-old bride-to-be decided not to attend the event, understandably, opting to stay home with friends. However, her mother remained positive.

“I feel a lot of heartache and heartbreak for her, but I will take away something good from this, I will.”
